Our commitment

Safeguarding Policy

Keeping every student safe — especially children and adults at risk — matters more to us than any lesson, booking or fee.

1. Statement of commitment

Duvigneau Tuition is committed to keeping all students safe, especially children and adults at risk. Safeguarding is treated as more important than any lesson, booking or fee. Every student has the right to learn in a safe environment, free from harm, abuse or exploitation.

2. Who this policy covers

  • All students, including children (under 18) and adults at risk.
  • All tuition delivered by Duvigneau Tuition, whether online (one-to-one or small group) or in person.
  • Joanna Duvigneau, who is personally responsible for implementing this policy.

3. DBS (criminal record) check

An Enhanced DBS certificate (child workforce) is held and is available for parents and carers to view before lessons begin, on request.

4. Online safety and lesson conduct

  • All online lessons take place on a reputable video platform, with meetings secured so only invited students can join.
  • A parent or carer is informed of lesson times and the platform for any student under 18, and is welcome to be present or nearby during lessons.
  • Students under 18 are never contacted through private social media or personal messaging accounts. All communication goes through the parent/carer or a business channel that parents can see.
  • Lessons are professional in content and conduct: appropriate language, on-topic teaching, no personal discussion of a private nature.
  • No lesson is recorded without the consent of the student and (for under-18s) their parent or carer. Recordings, if made, are stored securely and deleted when no longer needed.
  • Personal data (contact details, school year, learning needs) is stored securely, used only for tuition purposes, and never shared.

5. Recognising concerns

Concerns may include (but are not limited to): a student disclosing harm or abuse; signs of neglect or distress; inappropriate behaviour by any adult towards a student; or a student's safety being at risk at home, school or online.

6. Responding to a concern

  1. Listen calmly, without leading questions or promises of secrecy.
  2. Reassure the student they did the right thing in telling us.
  3. Write it down as soon as possible afterwards: date, time, what was said in the student's own words, and what was observed. The record is stored securely.
  4. Report to the relevant local authority safeguarding team. If a child is in immediate danger, 999 is called first.
  5. If unsure whether to refer, advice is sought from the NSPCC Helpline (0808 800 5000, help@nspcc.org.uk) before acting.

7. Records and review

A written record is kept of every concern raised and every action taken, stored securely and confidentially, and retained only as long as necessary in line with data-protection rules. This policy is reviewed at least annually, and after any safeguarding concern or relevant change in the business.

The full policy document

The complete safeguarding policy document is shared with parents and carers when lessons are confirmed. If you would like a copy sooner, or have any questions about any of the above, just ask.

Any questions at all?

Safeguarding questions are always welcome — no question is too small.
